Welcome to the Art Department

2010 School Year

by Jimmie Tucek

August 20, 2010

Welcome to the 2010 school year! I have high expectations for all my students, so be ready to work. We have a busy year ahead. Fair time and the Halloween Carnival and the Sidewalk Art Festival will be here before you realize it, followed quickly by Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we will have our first advanced art class and we will be trying some new things including making and selling t-shirts with our new media cutter and t-shirt press for any group that we can.  Hopefully we can make a little money for the art department and keep some of that t-shirt money we spend each year “in-house.”

This year the high school curriculum includes Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Advanced Art. Seventh and Eighth Grade students will receive one semester of foundations in Visual Arts, and Elementary students in grades one through four will visit the Art Studio once a week all year.

Required supplies:
    • High School Students-need to have a flash drive for art class use this year. Students will keep individual digital portfolios (assessed for grading) and use the drives for class presentations and projects. They also need an art notebook and either a shipping tube or portfolio (for art storage).
    • Middle School Students-need to have a flash drive, an art notebook and either a shipping tube or art portfolio for artwork storage. Notebooks and storage need to be brought to class each day.
    • Elementary Students-each grade will bring a different supply (foam plates, glue, erasers, or tape) which is already listed on your school supply list.

Syllabi and class rules/procedures are included in the documents and presentations below for both student and parent convenience. Please prepare by viewing the relevant presentation for your class.
